## Where translations come from

PIM looks for free sources first and only then uses a paid engine:

1. **Vocabulary** — fixed terms (free);
2. **Translation memory** — exactly the same text translated before (free);
3. **Translation engine** — machine translation (paid, counts towards the monthly limit);
4. **Premium engine** — for long descriptions, if enabled in settings.

Machine translation **never overwrites** text written by a person or a supplier.

## The overview page

There are four figures at the top:

- **Needs review** — translations waiting to be checked;
- **Translating** — jobs running now;
- **Free from memory** — how much text came from translation memory;
- **By engine this month** — how much of the monthly limit is used.

The **Languages** card shows each language's coverage, how many translations are machine vs human, and a link to outdated texts.

## Translate missing

1. In the **Translate missing** block choose **From language** and **To language**.
2. Set **how many products** to translate (up to 2000 at a time).
3. Click **Queue**.

The job appears in the **Translation jobs** table with the state *Pending → Translates → Ready* (or *Error*).

If the button is disabled and you see *No translation engine connected*, your company doesn't have an engine connected yet — contact support.

## Other ways to translate

- One product — on the product's **Texts and translations** page or in the **Translate now** panel (see [Texts and translations](/hc/pim/articles/en-product-texts)).
- Many chosen products, cheaper — [Translation lists](/hc/pim/articles/en-translation-lists).
- Automatically — [Automatic translation](/hc/pim/articles/en-auto-translation).
